Getting pregnant as a teenager can be doubly scary. Although once a common practice, more and more women in developed countries are opting to delay parenthood for later in life.
Teen pregnancy has its own complications, both medically and socially. Children born to teen moms are more likely to experience birth defects and poverty.
The United States continues to push anti-choice legislation forward while cutting programs that benefit children and families. As a result, the challenges faced by young moms today are tremendous.
It doesn’t help that society often takes a negative view of teen mothers. Rather than offer support, we prefer to stigmatize these new moms as irresponsible and promiscuous.
While the challenges may be steep, many teen moms somehow manage to do their best. Perhaps inspired by their new responsibilities, these super women manage to get educations completed and careers started all while tending to a little one at home.
Now 24, the young woman gave birth to her first child at the tender age of 18. Rather than discontinue her education, somehow she pushed through.
While many teen moms do not complete high school, Bri went even further than a diploma or GED. In fact, she didn’t even stop at basic undergraduate education.
After completing college at 22, which is the average age to obtain a Bachelors now, she went on to pursue an advanced degree. She just graduated with her Masters!
At only 24, she is actually younger than most who complete graduate school. The average age to enroll in a master’s program is actually around 29 so Bri’s ahead of the curve.
Her latest degree is in cyber security, a growing field with many job openings right now. She’s definitely on her way to a successful and lucrative career.
Her hard work shows because her GPA was a 4.0, the highest possible. And in case you hadn’t noticed, Bri isn’t just brainy, she’s also very beautiful.
Congrats to this spirited young woman who showed what is possible despite the odds. We should all take a page from her book and rather than shame teen moms for their reproductive choices, support them in achieving their aspirations.
